We bumped into this newly opened small Chinese restaurant in Fizroy by chance, and it was a very pleasant surprise. 竹香阁 serves no big pretentious dishes but everything on the menu are rusty and honest North China dishes. The chef is from Ha Er Bin, and the kitchen hands are from Shanghai and Hong Kong. The host is not Chinese, but very nice and serve with enthusiasm. All 4 dishes we ordered (猪肉蒸饺,芥末木耳,干煸四季豆,籽然羊肉) were yummy. The price is honest too, only $ 40 for our dinner.
It seems to be newly opened and not many people seem to know it. there were only 2 tables in this 10-table capacity restaurant, but we heard a lot of praise from the other table as well.
As this is one of our closest chinese restaurant, and it's really good, i really hope to see it thrive! Give it a try if you are nearby.
